8.1              Latemodel Sportsman - as this rules package is a baseline work in progress....... adjustments/additions/subtractions may be added in interest of competition.  No arbitrary changes will be made. The intent of these rules is to be all inclusive as to allow almost any car to race as it is built.

 

8.2                MINIMUM WEIGHT – post Event. Declared weight will be displayed at the top left corner of the windshield.

8.2.1           Minimum total base weight as weighed with the driver will be 2,950 lbs.

8.2.2           All cars will be subject to the following additions or deducts from the base weight.

8.2.2.1                        Plus 40 lbs. for any engine with a roller camshaft.

8.2.2.2                        Plus 20 lbs. for an OEM performance head. IE Bowtie, W2, V4

8.2.2.3                        Plus 40 lbs. for any non-OEM steel head.

8.2.2.4                        Plus 40 lbs. for any OEM Aluminum Head or Brodix spec head.

8.2.2.5                        Plus 100 lbs. for any non-OEM Aluminum Head

8.2.2.6                        Plus 100 lbs. for any valve angle other than OEM for manufacturer.

8.2.2.7                        Plus 40 lbs. for port work on any head. ½” gasket matching intake and/or exhaust excluded.

8.2.2.8                        Plus 20 lbs for any Crankshaft that weighs less than 50.0 lbs

8.2.2.9                        Plus 30 lbs for any non OEM transmission

8.2.2.10                    Plus 40 lbs for any dual action type swaybar (does not mean regular splined bar.

8.2.2.11                    Minus 50 lbs. for any 604 GM crate engine, must be approved with seals in place. GM part # 88958604

8.2.2.12                    Minus 100 lbs for any 602 GM crate engine, must be approved with seals in place. GM part # 88958602

8.2.2.13                    Minus 50 lbs for stock type brake calipers/shoes on all 4 corners

8.2.2.14                    Minus 25 lbs for engine location where as the #1 plug is at or ahead of the Lower Ball Joint.

8.2.2.15                    Minus 50 lbs for stock type clutch assembly 10.4” diameter or larger

8.2.2.16                    Minus 50 lbs for Holley 4412 carb must pass go-no-go

8.2.2.17                    Minus 25 lbs for Holley 390 carb must pass go-no-go

8.2.2.18                    Minus 25 lbs for stock steering box  

8.2.3           Maximum left side weight percentage as weighed with the driver will be 58.00% for all combinations.

 

8.3                ENGINE

8.3.1           Any cast iron engine block may be used.

8.3.2           Maximum set back will 2” on any engine, as measured from #1 spark plug

8.3.3           All engines must start under their own power. Starter type optional.

8.3.4           Mechanical fuel pump ONLY.

8.3.5           Air cleaner or protective covering over butterflies required.

8.3.6           Any single carb intake manifold allowed.

8.3.7           Cooling fan type optional. Must be shrouded minimum three sides. (top and sides)

8.3.8           Ignition will be camshaft driven distributor only. Magneto not approved

 

8.4                HEADS

8.4.1           All heads are subject to weight additions or deducts as per rule 8.2

 

8.5                CARBURETION

8.5.1           One Carburetor approved.

8.5.2           Two throttle return springs required. Positive throttle stop highly recommended

 

8.6                TRANSMISSION – FLYWHEEL - CLUTCH

8.6.1           Must have at least two working gears, including reverse.

8.6.2           Automatics are optional. Cooler and lines must be located outside of the drivers compartment. Approved tranny blanket recommended.

8.6.3           Approved scatter shield or NHRA type blow-proof bell housing highly recommended on all non-racing style clutch assemblies.

 

8.7                REAR END

8.7.1           Any manufacturer. Floaters mandatory. Locking devices optional.

 

8.8                BODY SPECIFICATIONS

8.8.1           A complete stockcar type fiberglass or aluminum body is approved. All bodies and body panels shall be maintained or replaced as needed , as approved by Officials or Promoter.

8.8.2           All panels must be securely welded, bolted or riveted to chassis.

8.8.3           All glass will be a minimum 1/8” thick lexan. Windshield recommended. Must have at least one diagonal bar in the windshield opening to help prevent large items from entering the driver’s compartment.

8.8.4           Rear window optional.

8.8.5           Left side window opening must have drivers window net in place, fitted with seatbelt or quick release connector for easy release. Right side glass not approved.

8.8.6           Air cleaner clearance may be cut in hood. Opening must be clean and neat appearing.  Cold air boxes are approved.

8.8.7           Bumpers must be fabricated tube steel type and used under after-market or factory plastic front and/or rear bumper covers. Exposed bumpers are not approved

8.8.8           Nose of car must be enclosed with neat appearing sheet metal, plastic, aluminum or stockcar type bumper cover. Rear of car shall be enclosed in the same manner as the front. No holes allowed in rear from deck lid to bumper.

8.8.9           All nerf bars or rub rails will be contained inside of the body.

8.8.10       Rear spoiler allowed. Spoiler not to exceed 60” in width and 8” in height. As measured from deck to top at angle installed.

8.8.11       Hood and deck lid must be securely fastened at a minimum of four points for the hood and a minimum of 2 points for the deck lid. Must be removable for officials.

8.8.12       No excessive trimming of fenders or quarter panel will be allowed. Keep it clean and respectable.

8.8.13       Front and rear firewalls will fabricated from minimum 20 gauge sheet metal or aluminum. All penetrations must be sealed. Driver must be shielded from the engine, transmission, rear end, fuel cell, exhaust system and the racing surface.

 

8.9                CHASSIS

8.9.1           FRAME. It is recommended that any fabrication or modification made to the frame be done with 2” x 3” square tubing with a minimum wall thickness of .090”. Fabricated frame designs may be either perimeter or straight rail design. Uni-body cars may tie front and rear frame sections together.

8.9.2           WHEELBASE. Minimum wheel base will be 101”

8.9.3           TRACK WIDTH. Maximum track width;

8.9.3.1      for stock front clip big spring (4 corners) will be 69” maximum

8.9.3.2      for stock front clip big spring (front only) will be 67.5”

8.9.3.3      for fabricated front clip big spring will be 67” maximum

8.9.3.4      for any front clip with coil over suspension will be 66” maximum

8.9.3.5       All widths as measured at spindle height. (center of tire to center of tire OR outside of right side wall to inside of left sidewall)

8.9.3.6      SHOCKS. One, nonadjustable, unaltered shock per wheel. One additional shock allowed in lift- or pull-bar area. No external or internal bumpers or stops. No air, or remote reservoir shocks. No Schrader or bladder type valve allowed. Front half may be shielded.

8.9.3.7    SHOCK CLAIM. Any driver finishing fifth on back in feature that has not been lapped by the fourth place driver and has competed in all events for the evening, can claim any shock for $150.00 from any of the top four drivers. One or all shocks may be claimed, counting as one claim. No driver may claim same driver’s shocks more than once during the calendar year. (claim and payment shall be made verbally to the Race Director or Promoter prior to the start of final event of the night.) Claimer accept and refusal procedures shall be followed from section 5.

8.10            ROLL CAGE

8.10.1       A six point roll cage is mandatory. The roll cage must be mounted to the frame. 

8.10.2       Main bars must be a minimum 1 ¾” O.D. .095 wall minimum. Tech approved.

 

8.11            BRAKES. Four wheel brakes are mandatory. All four must be in working order.

8.12            BATTERY. The battery must be securely mounted. between the frame rails and in front of the rear-end. If the battery is mounted in the driver’s compartment, then it must be mounted securely in an approved battery box. Tech approval required.

 

8.13            DRIVESHAFT

8.13.1       Drive shaft must be painted white

8.13.2       Aluminum or steel only, NO Composite

8.13.3       See also rule 3.2.10 Minimum specifications.

 

8.14            EXHAUST SYSTEM

8.15            See rule 3.2.4 Minimum specifications.

8.16            Any header or exhaust manifold approved.

8.17            Any portion of the exhaust system that is located inside the drivers cockpit, must be shielded to protect the driver.

8.18            It is mandatory for the exhaust system to be equipped with a noise suppressor of some type so as not to exceed a decibel level of 95 at 100 feet anywhere on the race track. spec muffler approved

8.19            All exhaust must be turned down and exit under the car, door or side exits not approved.

8.20            All cars may be subject to installation of specified muffler(s). Sprint Trap part #sup-1545

 

8.13            FUEL SUPPLY

8.13.1        No exotic or alcohol based fuels allowed.

8.13.2       Commercially produced fuel cell is mandatory

8.13.3       Rubber fuel line passing through the driver’s compartment will be contained in conduit or pipe from front firewall to rear firewall.

8.13.4       See Minimum Specifications, SECTION 3

 

8.14            MIRRORS. Optional.

 

8.15            RADIATOR. Optional, appropriate overflow tank required.

 

8.16            WHEELS. 8” and 10” wheels approved. Must be steel.

 

8.17            TIRES. Class tire to be used, 970 Hoosier.

.

8.18            SEAT. Aluminum high back racing seat required. Must be securely fastened to the roll cage. Steel framework around seat recommended. Right side head support is recommended.

 

8.19            FIRE EXTINGUISHERS

8.19.1       Participant’s car must be equipped with a minimum 2 ½ lb fire extinguisher within easy reach of the driver, must be full at all times and have a readable gauge. Fire suppressions systems highly recommended.

8.19.2       Each participant must keep a second fire extinguisher in his/her pit area. Extinguisher must be a minimum 2 ½ lb.

 

8.20            SAFETY ITEMS- Go to Section 3

8.21        PROTESTS.

8.22            REGISTRATION AND LICENSING (car #’s) See rule # 2.2

 

8.23            RADIOS

1)        One-way radios (scanners/ race scan) are required. Must be on race control channel at all times. 

2)        Two-way radios are not permitted.
